What does a typical Music Therapy session look like?

Music Therapy sessions are designed to meet the individual needs of each client and take into consideration information gathered through the initial consult, intake, and assessment. Goals and interventions are set that also take into consideration the clients’ strengths and interests.

Music therapy interventions may include:

  • music improvisation

  • instrument playing

  • singing

  • songwriting

  • movement to music

  • musical games

  • rhythm activities

  • singable books

  • music relaxation strategies

  • adaptive lessons

  • lyric analysis

  • music listening

  • and other strategies as appropriate

What is the cost for services?

  • Initial phone consult is FREE

  • Initial Intake- $150

  • 30 min individual session- $60

  • 45 min individual session- $90 ($30 each additional 15-min)

  • 30 min group session- $30/person- with documentation on each individual

  • 45 min group session- $45/person- with documentation on each individual

  • 30 min dyad session- $40/person- with documentation on each individual

  • Adapted lessons- $60/30-min lesson (supplies extra)

  • AGENCIES-FLAT RATE (group documentation only)

  • 30 min group- $100

  • 45 min group- $175

  • 1 hour group- $200

Is Music Therapy covered by insurance?

At this present time, third party reimbursement consists of mostly grants. Low Intensity Support Service funds (LISS) and Self-Directed Funds through the Developmental Disabilities Administration covers Music Therapy.

Do I need to know how to sing or play an instrument to participate in music therapy?

The ability to play and instrument, sing, or have a musical background is NOT required to participate in sessions or to benefit from sessions.

What’s involved in a music therapy intake?

After an initial phone consultation, the next step is scheduling an initial intake. Intake paperwork will be emailed or mailed to be filled out and brought with you to the initial intake. During the initial intake, clients are able to meet their music therapist, ask questions, see the office and therapy room and explore the different options available to them. It’s also a time when the music therapist and client can begin building rapport by sharing musical experiences together.

Does CMT offer Telehealth options?

CMT is able to provide telehealth options when necessary.

Where does CMT provide music therapy options?

CMT provides individual and group music therapy services both at our office located at 207 E. Market St., Suite 214, Salisbury, MD 21801, and out in the community at group homes, client homes, residential facilities, day programs, schools, and assisted living facilities.
